February - Stolen miniature portraits

As a public service, I am publishing this warning.

Collectors and dealers should be aware that a group of miniature portraits has recently been stolen in Dorchester, Dorset, England. The burglary happened sometime between 4pm and 9.30pm on Thursday, February 7, 2008.

The newspaper report of the burglary makes a serious error in describing them as photographs from 1750 to 1910, whereas it is obvious they must be paintings, most likely on ivory. The report shows only this poor image. For more about the burglary see Rare set of portraits stolen in house raid

Witnesses and anyone with any information on the raid should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01305 222222 or Crimestoppers.

If the victim should see this post and have better images they would like publicised, I am happy to display them on this website.
